Arm Lift Information

Arm Lift
Brachioplasty

Brachioplasty is the medical term for an upper arm lift plastic surgery procedure. Excess fat and skin is removed from the upper arm area in order to create a firmer more youthful looking arm contour. A brachioplasty can enhance the appearance of arms that, with age or weight loss, have lost their natural firmness and shape. It may also offer liberation in daily movement and during exercise.

During the brachioplasty procedure the surgeon will make incisions in the skin underneath the inner arm area, from elbow to armpit, where they are less likely to be noticeable later. Excess skin and fat is excised from the area. The skin is then stretched across the incision and stitched together. The average time of healing and recovery from arm lift surgery is two to six weeks. Your surgeon may recommend the use of compression garments and prescribe pain medications for you to use during this time. Many patients are able to return to work one to two weeks after their surgery.

As with any surgery, complications of arm lifts include infection and bleeding, although these are unusual. Other important complications include poor wound healing, resulting in conspicuous scars that may necessitate a second operation. Smokers are advised to discontinue smoking three weeks prior to surgery, as smoking increases the risks of complications and delays wound healing by altering blood circulation in the skin. You can reduce your risks of complications by closely following our instructions before and after the surgery, especially with regard to how and when you resume physical activity.

Brachioplasty results produce dramatic improvement in the firmness and appearance of the upper arms. Depending upon age of the patient at the time of procedure, it can be long lasting. Diet and strength exercises help prolong and enhance results.
